The course is set up so the reading is front loaded in the course. People do a lot of reading at the beginning, and students talk about the sense they are making. And then a third or forty percent through the course the students begin coming in with a question from the 5th Dimension and a set of fieldnotes in which the issues that are involved in that question are illustrated or in which they arise, and so students read the fieldnotes and then the question is: “What is your response?” And eventually we end up talking about: “What does the material we are reading have to say that addresses this question?” It may lead us to reformulate the question or it may lead us realize that the question is a non-issue. It may lead us to a solution, an answer, or alternative answer to the question.
