Education:

UCSD: Ph.D. student in Communication and Science Studies, 2004 present.
Brown University: BA with honors in Art/Semiotics, 1997

Research Interests:

Emma’s research combines ethnographic, historical and critical theoretical methodologies to find out how scientific practice and scientific knowledge function in contested terrains such as resource management and environmental restoration. Emma is a participant in the interdisciplinary Science Studies Program (http://sciencestudies.ucsd.edu/), and she is a fellow at the NSF-funded IGERT program at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (http://cmbc.ucsd.edu/). Emma also has a background and continuing interest in video, film and digital production

Background:

Emma grew up in New York City and lived there until her move to San Diego. She made her living as a motion picture camera assistant and worked on many illustrious projects destined for television and theatrical release.
