Glifos y nombres en el Mapa Quinatzin
Luz María MOHAR BETANCOURT, CIESAS, MéxicoLa lectura del nombre que da la glosa al personaje es Quetzalmamalitzin. El término -tzin usado como reverencial en este caso y en el resto no se dibujó. El personaje masculino orientado hacia la izquierda, está formado por los siguientes elementos tlacatl "hombre", ataviado con una manta. Solo se observan los pies del personaje. El icpalli o asiento, además del glifo de tlatoa "hablar", el cual se dibuja mediante una vírgula que es el tercer elemento. En este caso el personaje tiene dos vírgulas lo que indican su rango de autoridad.

To create the logo for the Communication Department, I merged two very well known Nahuatl glyphs. The first one, is the Nahuatl symbol for speech where the "speech scroll" represents the flow and transmission of knowledge, talk and teaching. Extra meaning can be added to the simple "speech scroll" glyph when other elements or color are added to it like in the Nielsen's article "The Queen of Mirrors".
For the department's logo, I added to the "speech scroll" glyph, the icon that represents the "conch shell". The conch is a musical instrument used by many Caribbean and South American cultures to call and congregate people around the priest, nobleman or news carrier, it also represents the wind and is the representation of the Aztec god Quetzalcoaltl.
