Artist, Painting and Photography

I work as an Executive Assistant in the Vice Chancellor’s Office of Resource Management and Planning.  In my spare time, I’m fulfilling my creative passion.

As an artist, my focus is painting in oils and/or acrylics, and more recently, photography.  I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University, majoring in Drawing, Painting and Printmaking.  Over the past 13 years, I have exhibited my artwork in several group shows throughout San Diego County.

For me, art has always been about creation rather than an end result.  A painting often begins with something as basic as my ‘sense’ of something.  Once the initial composition appears, adding and subtracting color provides relational space and movement.  The painting evolves during a dialogue between artist and canvas.  I relax and let the painting lead the process; when it’s quiet for awhile, it’s finished.

Photography is something new for me, and I enjoy the camera as a means of documenting that which I see.  My eyes are open, constantly looking at things artistically.  I am more interested in the existing composition than in manipulating a picture.

Different mediums provide different means of expression.  With painting, I am interested in the whole creative process of developing art.  Photography allows me to capture that which already exists, interacting with its intrinsic beauty.

I share a home in Clairemont with my husband of 20 years, two rotten beagles and a talkative cat.
