One of the framers that works there, Mickey, has been doing framing for
me for the past 7 years, and he's great! He gives you his honest opinion
on frame suggestions and pricing. With the economy lately, they have been
in need for some business. So, to help out another artist, I'm forwarding
this information to you. He did work for me when I was working at the
Port District for the Terminal 2 Expansion public art pieces. Most notably
were the Huichol paintings (http://www.portofsandiego.org/sandiego_publicart/huichol.asp).
Please feel free to mention my name when you order with Mickey. Perhaps
he will give you a deal on the framing. Feel free to forward this information
to other artists you know who may need framing services.

On occasion, I pick up a neat little booklet at the UCSD Crafts Center
entitled, "ArtScene". Now, I find they have a website. Please
have a look and judge for yourself. I think you'll be pleased. http://artscenecal.com

Frame it Yourself
5523 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
You can frame the work yourself, with instruction from the store owner,
Ron, for about 1/2 the price of having the framer do it.

The Great Frame Up

is excellent. Not only are their prices reasonable, but the owner, Mike,
has an extraordinary talent in matching the right frame for one's art
work. I would encourage our group to support this local small, woman-owned
business. When you have your frames done there, mention Paul Chan as a
referral; you may get a discount.

Concerning Watercolor framing - Frame It Yourself did not have
acid free or pH neutral matting materials. In addition, from my past experience
with them, they laminated the paper to a cardboard backing full of acid.
It looked great at the time, but after 2-3 years it will start toyellow
after that treatment. Anyone who works on paper, and who plans to sell
their work or wants it to last longer than a couple of years should NOT
do this.
Framing is dead easy to do! A mat cutter is about $75 from Cheap Joes:
metal sectional frames can be bought at Aaron brothers or ordered off
the internet from Daniel Smith (http://www.danielsmith.com/),
Cheap Joes (http://www.cheapjoescatalog.com/index.asp),
etc. Arron Bros and many other places will cut glass or plexi to order.
It typically cost me between $60-100 to frame works up to 30 X 50 in size
- pH neutral mat board (such as alpha mat artcare) can be ordered off
the net or purchased at Aaron Bros. (Sue Hopkins)

They will also custom fit your matting. Be sure to order the Fraiming
Kit which includes the acrylic, backing board and hanging wire. They are
easy to work with, ship promptly and the price is right. (Georgia Hoopes)
