Department of Communication Mailing Lists

* communication@communication.ucsd.edu

Purpose: one-time announcements of general interest to everyone.

Mandatory subscribers: faculty, staff, grads.

Voluntary subscribers: undergrads; other on and off campus folks,
including, but not limited to, departed grad students, previous
visiting scholars and faculty, former faculty, librarians,
outside faculty, FOAF.

* commtalk@communication.ucsd.edu

Purpose: general discussions on any topic, job announcements, houses
for rent, cars for sale, political polemics, lost books, etc.

Subscribers: a subset of the subscribers to communication. Some
folks don't care to see the traffic.

* commfac@communication.ucsd.edu

Purpose: discussion of issues pertinent to permanent faculty

Subscribers: all faculty. Grads and staff can post to the list, but
do not receive the mail.

* commgrad@communication.ucsd.edu

Purpose: discussion of issues pertinent to graduate students.

Subscribers: the grad population, which occassionally includes the
incoming cohort, and ABDs and dropouts I haven't taken off the list.

Faculty and staff can post to the list but do not receive the mail.

* commstaff@communication.ucsd.edu

Purpose: notices for time off (doctor appts, vacation and sick days,
etc.) , pictures of grand children, lunch announcements, calls for
timesheets, good jokes, and the like.

Subscribers: the folks who keep the joint running.
