Well, of course there is the VeriSign company that is used by Netscape and MS Outlook and alikes. Still, that costs .. about $10 a year. But then there is also PGP (Pretty Good Privacy). They've got a freeware version, that now works both with Eudora and MS Outlook 98. Messages can be encrypted or just signed. But what's more, you can set up several virtual disks which are in their turn encrypted. Perfect for hiding your private stuff on a shared computer. PGP uses 2 keys - a private and a public key. The private key is the one you keep - stuff encrypted with this key can only be opened by the public one. Therefore the public one is to be shared with the world. Messages encrypted using the public key can only opened by you, using your private key. And of course, there may be hackers that can crack also this system ..... but somewhere all ends :-) So, in case you need to send any private, naughty, sensitive, prohibited, financial or even creditcard information - this would be a nice asset.
