My name is Adam Philbin and I am the Director of Marketing for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. You might know us for the Primetime Emmy® Awards we bestow. Or you might know us for our CollegeTelevision Awards or our College Internship programs. However you might not be aware that we offer two scholarships each year in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, in the amount of $10,000 each to two students looking to pursue careers in Children’s Media. The following link provides details for the scholarships:

The Truman Scholarship Foundation looks like a really good oppurtunity for our undergrads to know about. The Truman Foundation gives out up to $30,000 to undergrads who are planning to pursue graduate degrees in public service fields (though it looks like reviews can begin as early as sophomore or jr year so info needs to get out there early...). Applications to the foundation are due February 7, 2005, though UCSD may have an earlier deadline - I don't know. The faculty rep here at UCSD this year to contact about it is:

University of California-San Diego
Dr. Ross Frank
Professor, Ethnic Studies
phone: (858)534-1067
email: robayashi@ucsd.edu

Truman's website:
http://www.truman.gov/
The mission of the Truman Scholarship Foundation is:
* to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and
* to provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.
