Visiting Scholar
Dr. Chen Zhang is an Associate Professor in the School of Fashion Communication at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Tsinghua University and completed her postdoctoral research at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Her research focuses on online audiovisual media and youth social engagement. Dr. Zhang is currently leading a study on how AI chatbots influence prosocial behavior among youth. Concurrently, she is conducting ethnographic research within Chinese diaspora communities to examine the formation of digital cultural enclaves on social platforms.
Dr. Zhang has published numerous influential articles in her field and leads research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation and the Beijing Social Science Foundation. Her notable publications include: “Factors Influencing Chinese Internet Users’ Participation in Short Video App Governance: Implications for Sports Content and Community Engagement” (2024); “Fashion Biases and the Construction of Contemporary Rural Workers’ Identities” (2022); “Copyright Protection and Content Regulation Dilemmas in the Overseas Development of Domestic Short Video Applications” (2021).
As a member of the Shanghai Academy, Dr. Zhang authored the “CIIE Year’s Reports” for three consecutive years, where she leveraged big data modeling to assess the Expo's international communication impact. The significance of this research was subsequently featured in a dedicated report by CGTN, China’s state-run international media network. She is currently collaborating with her team to develop SSDATGS (Social Science Data Analysis and Text Generation System), a specialized tool for generating text from social science data. The system has already been successfully implemented in an actual project, demonstrating significant potential to enhance research efficiency in the social sciences.
