Matthew Dewey, PhD, is a former public access television practitioner and alum of the Graduate Program in the Department of Communication at UCSD. Dewey’s work looks at the intersection of telecommunication policy, urban redevelopment, and community media practices as they impact the ability of citizens to engage in local decision-making processes through community media. Dewey teaches a variety of media studies and production courses and produces the Living Chronically podcast through the DEmocracy Lab. Recognizing the important role universities can play in their communities, Dewey has also created student internships and service-learning courses with organizations such as the San Diego Futures Foundation, The San Diego Voice and Viewpoint, and LA Commons.
